SOCCER SUCCESS CELEBRATED

Shanklin FC celebrated off field success, securing funding for a new fixture board, and FA accreditation for their Women’s side, as well as securing planning permission for the first part of a planned development at the Club, which was founded in 1888.

Lake Parish Council Chair, Paul Brading, unveiled the fixture board, said ‘It is heartening to see grassroots football, and all sport, striving to provide the best quality facilities for people to participate in sport – and Shanklin’s plans reflect this commitment’.

Shanklin FC vice-chair Trevor Thorne added ‘The club have worked hard to achieve success on the field, across youth, women’s and men’s sides, and we are focussing on developing off-field improvements to help sustain and maintain our reputation as a quality family club within a supportive community’.
The club, wholly run by volunteers, recently renovated it’s clubhouse, and fundraised for new goalposts, improvements to the playing surface, as well as amenities for the youth, and have plans to improve the changing rooms, build an extension, and add to the daytime use of the facilities.

Paul concluded ‘As someone that grew up playing football on the Island, it is vital that we maintain sporting facilities for our youth and communities, with opportunities to progress, as well as enjoy the benefits that grass roots sport provide for all’.
