TREE-MENDOUS PROJECT

Lake Parish Council Chair Paul Brading helped plant the first of many new trees at the County Ground, in the recreational ground bordering Lake and Shanklin, helping to refresh the landscape after several trees were lost in recent storms and due to infection.

Cllr Brading said ‘The Ground is used by countless residents, young and not so young, as well as being home to grass root sport and other community projects, and refreshing the natural environment is a priority.’

Over a dozen new trees are due to be planted, with supports in place and regular maintenance planned, with Shanklin Football Club, established in 1888, also planning developments to maximise the benefit of the location, the support of the local community and good will of nearby neighbours.

Paul concluded ‘The County Ground is so well used and it’s good to see the Council invest in the longer term, with the pitch looking in first class condition, and the Football Club, on and off the field, going from strength to strength’.
